Kelly Ryan, R.I.P.
Last Updated: Oct 15, 2003, 09:35
Last night, on 14 October 2003, former Tilsner resident Kelly Ryan passed away after a long battle with cancer. Kelly was an electronic musician, graphic artist, sculptor, and a founding member of the Tilsner Artists' Cooperative, serving a term as Coop president from 1999-2000. Remembered for his bizarre and often shocking art, his crazy parties, and periodic railing against a variety of establishment figures, he will be missed by many of us at the Tilsner and beyond.

I had been painting "guts" for the fun of it when someone in the building introduced to me, the idea of peristalsis. The term for digestion. The movement of matter through the body on its way to eventual assimilation, also symbolic of the movement of idea through the brain on it's way to eventual physical manifestation. As of that moment, peristalsis has become my "thing", and my current motivation for creating is simply a serious lack of seriousness and perhaps the idea that the practical joke is in fact an artform in and of itself and just as valid as any other.
