Lowertown Guide
INTRODUCTION
Lowertown is an historic, warehouse district in Minnesota's capital city, Saint Paul. The last two decades have seen the steady arrival of both artists' cooperatives and condo projects. Twice a year, in Spring and Fall, the Saint Paul Art Crawl takes place, and hundreds of resident artists open their studios for members of the public to see and buy their art.

LOCAL HOTSPOTS
The word "hotspots" is used somewhat ironically, as one of Lowertown's nicknames is "Slowertown". Saint Paul's adjoining downtown is also spoken of locally as "the city that rolls up its sidewalks after 8pm." That just means it's not really hopping, unless there's an event in the Xcel Energy Center - a large, acoustically pretty good, music, show, and convention venue.
That doesn't mean there's nothing fun to do here. It's just not hopping like Uptown in Minneapolis. When the train station and light rail get here, it'll be hopping, so hold your breath 5 years or so and we might see one decent bar in town. Or a cinema, just maybe. Or a grocery store. We'll take any of the above.
