Photo story: Fall 2003 Art Crawl at the Tilsner (part 1)
E-mail this | Print this

A photo story of the Tilsner Artists' Cooperative during the Fall 2003 Saint Paul Art Crawl residents. Photographs by Nigel Parry.

The first night of the Art Crawl, heralded with a light projection on the neighboring Great Northern Warehouse, courtesy of In The Basement Productions.

The front of the historic Tilsner Building, ready for Day 2 of the Art Crawl.
Greeters in the Tilsner Lobby, the first stop for visitors, with information about the building, how artists can apply to live here, Crawl guidebooks, and a computer demonstrating the Tilsner.net website.

The entrance of the Tilsner lobby, displaying art from a variety of residents in the building. The mosaic tiled tables are the work of Chrissy Mitchell and Jim Duncan.

Day 1 of the Art Crawl saw 1,081 people visit the building. While a reasonably brisk rate, the Tilsner building can comfortably accomodate several thousand visitors a day, offering elevators, air conditioning, public toilets, and refreshments in showing artists' studios.
The Art Crawl exists to let local residents of the Twin Cities see the rich variety of art being created in their neighbourhood, as well as giving artists the chance to make new contacts and sell art to the general public. Art is why the Tilsner Artists' Cooperative exists. Support local artists by buying art.

Although Day 2 of the Art Crawl saw a drop in attendance, due to rain, visitors browsed and bought art from many residents. Jeremiah Cunningham's work is visible on the back wall.
