Artists' Cooperatives

LOWERTOWN LOFTS ARTISTS' COOPERATIVE

Since 1985, the Lowertown Lofts limited equity owners’ cooperative has provided safe, affordable live-in studios for a community of artists in St. Paul's historic warehouse district. It serves as a model for artist housing across the nation.

Applications for membership are always accepted; however final selection is based on a review of artist’s work and an interview. Since opening, the Lofts has had 100% occupancy. Due to the stability of its membership, only a few units per year may become available. Units are available in three sizes: approximately 485 sq. feet, 900 sq. feet. and 1300 sq. feet.

Location: 255 Kellogg Blvd E, between Wall and Wacouta, near the Farmers' Market, Black Dog Cafe, and Kelly's Depot Bar.

NORTHERN WAREHOUSE ARTISTS' COOPERATIVE

Established in 1990, the Northern Warehouse Artists' Cooperative (NWAC) is located in the Lowertown district of downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota, near the Saint Paul Farmers' Market and the banks of the Mississippi. The NWAC is a cooperative living community of 52 artist households. Because the NWAC is a cooperative, its members are responsible for running the NWAC through active involvement in committees as well as a Board of Directors. This community exists to allow artists to live where they work, and to assist current and past NWAC members with the production, promotion and sale of their art.

Location: 308 Prince Street, Corner of Prince/4th and Broadway, above the Black Dog Cafe.
