Rurik: Rurik Collaborates on Exhibit in Michigan
 |
| Painting in progress |
Rurik was asked to participate in a collaborative work with Minneapolis artist, Kyle Fokken. Fokken works primarily with dog/airplane images and was preparing for a show at the Buckman Gallery in Flint, Michigan when he asked Rurik to collaborate and paint one of his sculptures.
Rurik painted the sculpture with the idea of camouflage in mind, both natural and man-made. Diverging from the Fokken's dog imagery, Rurik covered the legs of the sculpture with leopard spots to take a more feline approach and the body is painted with a camouflage pattern in a matching color scheme. The cargo netting was added to enhance the camouflage nature of the leopard/airplane theme and lend an aspect of mystery about what lies hidden beneath.
