Skills of effective communication are essential for life’s success. Various jobs need individuals with strong communication skills. Excellent communicators are greatly trusted and respected. Professional and personal relationships are fundamental in when establishing communication skills. Good communications are advantageous because one may get a promotion and be recognized due to their competence in communication. On the other hand, poor communication skills make it hard to accomplish both professional and personal tasks. Communicators have combined skills of verbal, non-verbal, engaged listening, stress management, and the capability to communicate boldly. We are all have some barriers of effective communications but it’s better to overcome them. There’re various ways of becoming good communicators. Below are three ways that can be utilized by effective communicators:

Pay Attention to Nonverbal Cues

Good communicators have the power to communicate things they care about with non-verbal signals involving body movement, facial expressions, posture, body gestures, eye contact, tonal variation, muscle breathing, and tension. Communicators should be keen on the way they move, listen, react, and look at other people’s feelings more than words can explain. One must have the ability to use and understand nonverbal cues before making use of them. Use of nonverbal signals can help us to connect with the trainees and helps to illustrate what one really mean, traverse difficult situations, and establish good relationships at work. Non-verbal cues should be adjusted to fit based on context. For instance, tonal variations should defer when talking to children and when speaking to adults. Cultural background and emotional state should also be taken into account. Body language is useful when trying to communicate a positive feeling. A person may be nervous when going for an interview, but he/she can smile, maintain eye contact, stand straight, and avoid fidgeting- to indicate confidence.

Listen Carefully

We must be keen listeners. Good listening skills are important in fostering excellent communication. Individuals always focus on the topics they will discuss. An engaged listener does not only understand the words being communicated but also the emotions utilized by a speaker. If the audience is attentive and calm, it is easy to communicate to them unlike when speaking in a place where most people are making noise. We must maintain eye contact. Be courteous and avoid interrupting people. There is no single person who enjoys interruptions and people ought to extend similar politeness to others. Strive to understand the audience’s perspective by keeping an open mind. We are required to show appreciation to differing opinions of the audience.

Ask Questions and Feedback

At the end of an exercise, a good person needs to ask questions and feedback. Questions and feedback are necessary for a communicator to know if the audience understood the message. Sometimes we think that we all agree but only to realize later that we had varying thoughts and ideas. Feedback serves as an assurance that the communicator’s opinions are appreciated. During any communication, communicators often ensure that the message they wanted to pass across was received and his/her objectives are attained. The desired result facilitates conversation’s flow. Most audiences listen attentively and we must be able to respond to them and vice versa. The power of queries should not be underestimated instead because it allows healthy interactions during discussions.
